Sprayway Supports 10 Years of Winter Skills Project

At Sprayway, we believe in the power of the outdoors to inspire, challenge, and change lives. That’s why, for the past 10 years, we’ve been proud to support Lindley Educational Trust and their incredible Winter Skills Project – giving young people from some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas the chance to experience the mountains in full winter conditions.

This year, 16 young people from Lindley’s youth clubs in Ashton, Greater Manchester, and Pitsmoor, Sheffield, took part in a winter expedition to the Cairngorms. Over the course of a week, they learned essential skills, including winter navigation, ice axe and crampon techniques, and teamwork in extreme conditions. Despite the weather throwing everything at them, they tackled the challenge with determination, resilience, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Why This Project Matters

For many of these young people, this was their first time in the mountains. It’s about more than just climbing hills – it’s about building confidence, discovering new possibilities, and proving to themselves what they’re capable of.

What makes this project even more special is that many of the youth workers leading these expeditions once stood in the same boots as the young people they now mentor. They’ve been through the programme themselves, proving just how life-changing these experiences can be.

A Decade of Impact

After 10 years of supporting this project, we’ve seen first-hand the incredible difference it makes. The Winter Skills Project helps young people to:

- Grow in confidence and push past their comfort zones.

- Develop real-life skills like teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.

- See a world beyond their everyday lives, broadening their horizons and future opportunities.

- Discover a love for the outdoors, inspiring them to explore, learn, and even pursue outdoor qualifications.

Part of Our Commitment

At Sprayway, we’ve been putting function first since 1974—but our mission goes beyond making great outdoor gear. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience and enjoy the outdoors, regardless of background. Our partnership with Lindley Educational Trust is just one of the ways we’re working to make the outdoors more inclusive, accessible, and inspiring for the next generation, driven by our belief that outdoor education has the ability to change lives.

Weather conditions this year were tough, but the group tackled every challenge head-on – and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of it.

Looking Ahead

Our decade-long partnership with Lindley Educational Trust has been one of the most rewarding things we’ve done as a brand. And we’re not stopping anytime soon. We’ll continue to support this project and help more young people experience the power of the outdoors – because we believe everyone deserves that opportunity.

Here’s to another 10 years of adventure, challenge, and life-changing moments.
